It appears most Queens residents don’t want the Queensboro Bridge renamed.
In a poll released Monday by the borough’s chamber of commerce, 70 percent of the 266 people surveyed don’t want a name change.
Last December, Mayor Michael Bloomberg proposed renaming the bridge the “Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge” in honor of the former mayor’s 80th birthday.
“It’s not showing Queens the proper respect. First of all, no one would ever think of changing the name of the Brooklyn Bridge, but in Queens we don’t get that respect,” said City Councilman Peter Vallone, Junior. “And second of all, it’s a Queens icon, it’s a landmark. It’s what put Queens on the map and brought everybody over here and most people in Queens oppose putting anybody’s name on it.”
The bridge renaming would need to be approved by the City Council.
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has expressed her support for the change.

He wants it done so one day there’ll be something on his name.
Maybe we can use the Mosque for that…
1. It costs money to rename something. Who would pay for it?
2. Renaming isn’t usually effective once the old name is well established (note the many people who still say “Sixth Avenue” rather than “Avenue of the Americas”).

That doesn’t bother the brilliant suits at City Hall, who spent millions pointlessly changing the signs for the Triboro Bridge, when it got its name changed to one that no one uses.
