Monday Morning News Briefs From Eretz Yisrael


A motorist traveling in Shomron on Monday morning (Sept. 26) reports shots were fired at his vehicle between Tapuach Jct. and Rechalim. The IDF is investigating.

** Yosef Hallel Yisraeli (26) died following a fall down a flight of stairs in Lima Peru on motzei Shabbos. Arrangements are underway to bring his remains to Israel for burial.

** Border police and Tiveria District police arrested dozens of PA residents found illegally in Lower Galil communities.

** Speaking to members of the diplomatic corps stationed in Israel, President Shimon Peres stated, “The present PA leadership is the best we could hope for”.

12:20: An Israeli motorist was lightly injured in a rock-throwing attack near Karmei Tzur, south of Gush Etzion.

** Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics reports there are 7,797,400 residents, which includes 5,874,300 Jews, 1,600,100 Arabs. This does not include 217,000 foreign workers. The Jewish population growth rate in 2010 was 1.7%, the Arab rate was 2.5% and other sectors were 1.7%.

13:10: Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and his entourage have returned from New York City.

13:25: An undercover border police unit apprehended Hamas terrorist Mahmoud Atoun who was hiding in the Red Cross office in the eastern capital. His citizenship was revoked about a year ago by the Ministry of Interior due to his involvement in anti-Israel acts of terror. His has been hiding in the Red Cross since, fearing deportation.
