Sunday Morning News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


Shabbos:

** Shortly before candle lighting, Arabs from Turmus Aiya, south of Shilo in Shomron, began attacking Israeli motorists making their way home for Shabbos. A number of Israeli Arab motorists, who also have yellow license plates, reported damage to their cars as well.

** Two firebombs were hurled at border police in the Har HaZeisim area. No injuries.

** Border police in the Silwan area of the eastern capital were pelted with rocks. No injuries reported. Two Arabs were arrested.

** An Israeli vehicle was targeted in a firebomb attack south of Kalkilye. No injuries were reported. One erev Shabbos, another motorist escaped injuries in a firebomb attack near Ariel. That vehicle sustained heavy damage as it caught fire. Miraculously, the occupants got out in time.

** Less than 30,000 people attended the 16th annual memorial rally for Yitzchak Rabin. The event was held on motzei Shabbos at Rabin Square in Tel Aviv. There is a growing sentiment to cancel the annual event which draws less people annually.

Motzei Shabbos:

A female was treated for hysteria following a rock-throwing attack near Beit Aryeh, in the Binyamin Regional Council of Shomron.

Sunday:

The IDF today held a major training exercise simulating the abduction of a soldier and a terrorist infiltration into a community. IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz was on hand to supervise the drill.
