Tuesday Morning News Briefs From Eretz Yisrael


Operation Cast Lead, the IDF’s counter-terrorism incursion into Gaza began three years ago today.

** In an interview on PA TV on Monday night, Hamas leader Khaled Meshal expressed his support for a Palestinian state on the pre-1967 borders, adding he will never recognize Israel’s right to exist.

** The Jerusalem District Court sentenced 23-year-old Mohammad Taha to four years in prison for hurling rocks at a father and daughter who mistakenly entered Silwan last May.

** President Shimon Peres called on the general public to attend a Tuesday night rally supporting women’s rights to be held in Beit Shemesh.

** A number of people arrested in Ramat Beit Shemesh violence were brought before a remand hearing on Tuesday morning where the court extended their remand. A father of one of the detainees, three in total, stated they were simply grabbed by police but really had nothing to do with the violence.

12:14: Six people were injured, two moderately, when a MDA ambulance turned over at Yagur Junction. The injured were transported to Rambam Medical Center in Haifa.
