IDF To Install Cameras At West Bank Hitchhiking Posts

cctv.jpgThe IDF will soon begin installing surveillance cameras and distress buttons at hitchhiking posts situated along Highway 60 in the West Bank, and will cost an estimated $500,000.

This news comes on the heels of last weeks terrorist attack – at a hitchhiking post – as reported HERE on YW.

On June 25 of last year, Eliyahu Asheri, 18, was kidnapped by terrorists at a hitchhiking post near Ofra. His body was found a few days later in Ramallah – as reported HERE on YW.

A senior IDF Central Command officer told Ynet that the surveillance cameras would relay the images to a nearby settlement, and in case of danger, local security personnel would be dispatched to the scene along with police and army forces.

  1. I drive the 60 almost everyday, and I must admit, it is somewhat scary at times. However, the “official” hitchhiking spots (“trempiyadot” in Hebrew) are somewhat safe, based on their popularity.

  2. it is silly 2 say that it is safe after there were terrorist attacks, kidnapping and other dangres stuff R”L think B4 u write!

  3. Those were quite isolated, and the very fact that many people wait for rides there shows that the situation isn’t as bad as the media makes it. Of course one needs Emunah & Bitachon to get through it, but l’maaseh these stops are “conventional” methods of transportation for many Israelis.
