Haifa Court Rejects Petition to Halt Religious Housing in Akko

The Haifa District Court on Monday, 1 Iyar 5772 rejected a petition against the Israel Lands Administration and a non-profit promoting housing for the religious sector to stop a housing project in Akko. The housing project is the result of a tender involving 196 housing units in Akko.

The petitioner claimed the housing project is discriminatory since it is marketing the homes to the dati leumi community exclusively.

Justice Ron Shapira ruled that the court is not able to determine that the project is discriminatory and therefore compelling the involvement of the court. The court did instruct the Lands Administration and Ministry of Housing to ‘keep an eye’ on the project however.
