IDF Radio Chief: Don’t Use The Term ‘West Bank’

According to a report released by Nati Tucker of Haaretz, Galei Tzahal (Army Radio) Director Yoram Dekel has sent a memo to content writers to omit the term “West Bank” in reports since it is used by the PA (Palestinian Authority) and left-wing. They are instructed to use the term “Territories” in reference to Yehuda and Shomron.

Dekel is winding down his post in another four months and according to some, he brought in broadcasters who are viewed as aligned with the political right during his tenure.

Responding to the report, Galei Tzahal officials explain the station always attempts to use terms that are neutral rather than aligning with one side or another, adding this is the same in the IDF, where the terms Yehuda and Shomron are used instead of West Bank, with the latter adopted by the PA.

The term West Bank is used to demark Yehuda and Shomron as the West Bank of Jordan when in fact, all of Jordan is Eretz Yisrael.
