In a sad story coming from Yerushalayim this evening, an 80-year-old woman was tragically killed from a fire caused by her Menorah; at 15 Rechov Adam in the Armon Hanitziv neighborhood of Yerushalayim. According to ZAKA, at approximately 8:00PM this evening, an 80-year-old woman who could not see well lit her Menorah, but accidentally knocked down one of the candles.
The fire quickly spread across the room and caught her cloths on fire.
After extinguishing the blaze, the fire department found her burned body R”L next to the window where the Menorah was.
In an unrelated incident, a large fire swept through a store (Bazar Hatzomet) at the corner of Rechov Shmuel Hanavi & Rechov Bar-Ilan. Boruch Hashem there were no injuries, but the store suffered severe damages. Click HERE for photos taken by Hatzolah Israel.

Sorry to hear of this sad news on the last night of Chanukka. Let’s hope some good can come from it. NEVER let a frail,poor visioned-person light candles alone. Safety is just as an important part of the mitzvoh as the mitzvoh itself!
what a horrible, horrible tragedy. may klal yisrael never know of more tzaros like this.
How many fires are started every year by Channuka candles? It’s a bigger mitzva to be careful with fire than to light with shemen zayis.
