PHOTOS: Peleg Protests In Yerushalayim On Monday Night

(PHOTOS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

According to police, there were 500 persons taking part in the Monday night protest by the Peleg faction. The protest was held on Sarei Yisrael/Nordau/Yaffo Streets. Police were tolerant to a point, already stretched thin due to the visit of US President Donald Trump.

At some point, an announcement was made that the gathering was illegal, as police were absolutely unwilling to play the cat-and-mouse game as some tried to close streets. Yassam commando police moved in to scatter the protestors, making at least one arrest.

It is reported the protest followed the arrest of a member of the Peleg community who refused to cooperate with military authorities.

  1. I do not understand why, when there are so many more pressing items to protest, like the reform women at the kotel, like NOT building more affordable apartments in more areas of the country and Jerusalem, etc, why do these people choose to protest the army when they can automatically get a deferment by simply bringing a piece of paper from the yeshiva and it is all over in 5 minutes!

Add to the above mentioned, the fact that in the Torah, it was the religious who went out to fight and the sinners were NOT allowed to fight in the wars. Maybe we need more religious people in the army to fight?

  2. Larryx, the automatic deferment was over after the Tal Law expired on Aug. 1, 2012, hence these are the most important protests. Any Yeshiva boy stepping foot in the lion’s den, aka recruitment office, to get a deferment can be drafted to the army, especially if you’re Sefardic, baal tshuva, child from a single parent or any other Yeshiva boy they decide to drag into the Shmad Army.

Unfortunately, the IDF is anything but a Jewish army. It’s anti-Torah and the immorality and filth on a very high level, which is why Gedolei Yisroel are adamantly against even going for a deferment.
