Herzog Ousted As Machane Tzioni Leader As Primaries Go To Round Two

Machane Tzioni party leader MK Yitzchak Herzog has been unseated in the party’s primaries held on Tuesday, 10 Tammuz. Contenders Amir Peretz and Avi Gabbai are heading to the run-off second round on Monday, 16 Tammuz.

For Herzog, who spent the last four years heading the party and serving as opposition leader in Knesset, he is winding down his tenure as 52,000 registered party members had their say at the polls and it was not a pleasant picture for the incumbent, who received 16.7% of the vote, 5,204 votes. Peretz received with 32.7% (10,141) and Gabbai 27% (8,395). Other contenders are out of the race.

  1. Let us take a moment to thank Hashem for the fall of the labor party in Israel.Middah Kneged midah is so obviously clear. The party of ga’avah to the extreme now has no idea how to keep itself relevant and is possibly electing one of it’s traitors to be it’s leader. Some of their vignettes: ” we have led this country from it’s inception, only we can continue to do so”,” we know what’s good for the chareidim”,and of course their first leader and the prime minister when calling on Menachem Begin “The Man sitting next to Dr. Bader”.Add onto this the evil done to the Yemenites and many others, the horrible economy when they were in charge,Oslo and more, and an endless list of other ineptitudes and worse, and we see that this, hopefully end,is richly deserved. No, this is not “joy at your enemies downfall” as this is not directed at a specific individual.Yes, some of the other parties have worse ideas, but that does not mitigate the joy at the fall of a source of evil, and a very haughty and powerful one at that.May all evil be eradicated and may Melech Hamoshiach ascend,Amen.
