Katsav Wants A Full Release, Without Restrictions As Received By Former PM Olmert

Former President Moshe Katsav, who was released from prison early on good behavior, is now seeking to improve the terms of his release. As a prisoner who was released early, he is not permitted to leave the country, nor may he speak with the media. He is also required to continue his rehab program, which includes daily participation in a Kiryat Malachi beis medrash program. There are other restrictions as well.

After realizing former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who was released early from prison too, does not have these same restrictions, Katsav has turned to President Reuven Rivlin to remove the restrictions on his release. Following Olmert’s release, he was pardoned and this lifted the restrictions, which did not occur in Katsav’s case.

  1. Most of the people I have spoken to think Olmert was guilty of far more than he was charged with and got off far too easily. Conversely most of the people I know think Katsav was probably not guilty and was pursued for no reason. If Olmert was released early and had all the restrictive bail conditions lifted, how much more so should Katsav receive the same treatment.
