Israel Police have arrested a male who was operating an electric bicycle while under the influence of alcohol, citing his blood alcohol level was several times the legal limit.

Electric bicycles have been designated as vehicles in Israel, which must comply with regulations, including a minimum age of 16 for an operator, wearing a helmet and obeying vehicular traffic signals. One may not operate a cellular telephone without a handsfree Bluetooth device while operating an electric bike.

Police received calls about a man on a bike riding erratically on Route 4, zigzagging around and placing himself at risk. They stopped the bicycle and when officers smelled alcohol on their breath, he issued a breathalyzer. Police say his blood alcohol was four times the legal limit.
