Israel: Major Reduction On Car Registration Fee In Exchange For Installing Vehicle Safety Device

As part of the fight against road accidents, the Ministry of Transportation is embarking on an unprecedented operation, in which the ministry wishes to encourage car owners to install a lifesaving safety system. Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz is hopeful many care owners will take advantage of the opportunity at hand.

The discount is intended for owners of private and commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tons, from the year of production 2000 and above registered in Israel until May 1, 2017 and are privately owned or private leasing.

“Many of the accidents are caused by the distraction of drivers, and life-saving systems have the ability to prevent most of these accidents,” Katz said, “These are new systems that contribute to road safety and enable a significant reduction in the involvement of vehicles in road accidents.”

It should be noted that the vehicle owners who wish to participate in the project will be required to install the unit via an ‘authorized installer’ in their vehicle two safety systems that include a system that detects if the vehicle deviates from the lane and the second monitors tailgating.

Once the garage owner report to the ministry that the devices have been installed, the benefit will be automatically deducted from the vehicle license fee.
