The IDF Suspends Brigadier-General Mordechai Kahane For 2 Weeks

The IDF Commander of Ground Forces announced he is suspending Brigadier-General Mordechai Kahane for two weeks amid reports he is maintaining an illegal store of military items, contrary to regulations.

It appears Kahane was in possession of non-functioning military equipment in a container, including parts for an AK-47 Kalashnikov assault rifle and night vision equipment, stored in a contained. The report adds he took this container, which also contained a TV, ammunition and other items with him from base to base as reassigned. No explanation is given other than IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gadi Eizenkott approved the decision to suspend him pending the investigation.

Ynet adds some of the military items may have been taken from Hamas.

Kahane is a son of Rabbi Nachman Kahane, a long-time resident and Mora D’asra in the so-called Muslim Quarter of Yerushalayim.

  1. Spelling issue in the transliteration from ivrit to English (“E” to “A”) …the father is Rav Nachman Kahana, the brother of Meir Kehane of JDL fame or infamy (depending on your perspective)….
