Teva Employees Continue Striking On Wednesday

Teva employees around Israel are continuing their strike today for a fourth consecutive day. Teva labor leader Itzik Ben-Shalom spoke with Kol Berama Radio host Noam Zeigman on Wednesday morning 2 Teves, explaining he is concerned as the situation is most serious. When asked if he was more optimistic following a meeting on Tuesday between Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Teva CEO Kåre Schultz, Ben-Shalom stated emphatically “no”, adding from his perspective, they have stopped production on Thursday, and they have no plans of resuming production.

“We stopped last Thursday, and we do not plan to return. I imagine in the coming days, it will have an impact in hospitals as they will begin requesting life-saving drugs and Schultz will have to deal with it. I am trying to say it nicely. He does not like Israel, he is not a friend of Israel and this is stating it nicely… It should be clear as he wishes to sell the Petach Tikvah and Kiryat Shmona plants and fire workers in Petach Tikvah. It is time for everyone to come to the realization that Teva is not a friend of Israel”.

  1. Demonstrating why Israel is not a good place for a globally competitive company to manufacture is probably counter-productive. Do they think they’ll convince the shareholders to pay 1st world wages when there are third world workers willing to work more reliably, equally competently, for lower wages.
