Jerusalem Man Arrested For Failing To Report Income From Apartments To Tax Authorities

Israel Tax Authorities have arrested a Jerusalem man who owns numerous properties, for failing to report the income from those properties.

An arrest warrant was issued by the Jerusalem Magistrate Court at the behest of Income Tax Authority for Moshe Y (name on file), 75, who the authority claims earned millions without reporting income. Apparently, he owns an apartment building and has not been reporting the income on any of the apartments. Adding to the authority’s case is the defendant was sent a form to declare his assets, but never responded. He was summoned to an investigation and he did not appear, explaining he is not feeling well.

This past week, agents arrived at a store in the city in the hope of getting a statement from the owner related to this case. They found Moshe and his son there. The defendant was taken into custody for questioning. He admitted owning two apartments in Pisgat Ze’ev, a private villa which is rented to a yeshiva in Maalot Daphne, and the building with five apartments on Adniyahu HaMelech Street. He also admitted to owning a store on Pines Street in the center of town and another apartment in Kiryat Moshe.

Authorities learn he has been renting these properties out since 2008 and has not reported income. It is estimated at present, he earned 1.8 million shekels without reporting any of it to tax officials.
