VIDEO: Purim in Meah Shearim: Effigy of IDF Soldier Hung From Building

(VIDEO & PHOTOS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

Jerusalem Municipality workers on Friday, Purim, were sent to lower an effigy of an IDF soldier that was hanging from lines running from the roof of an apartment building. There was also graffiti inviting Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman to visit the neighborhood.

City employees arrived and under the watchful eye of police, they removed the effigy of the soldier and the graffiti was washed off on Sunday morning, 17 Adar.

Defense Minister Lieberman responded, “My shock is double, also because we saw an effigy of a soldier hanging over the rooftops in Meah Shearim, and no chareidi MK or official even issued a condemnation. It is possible to argue about the draft law, we can argue about the budget, that in the State of Israel, in Jerusalem, the capital of Israel, on the roof, we see time and time again a hanging effigy of a soldier and there is no condemnation by any political figure. This is very serious, and it is impossible to permit it to pass.”

  1. The notion that someone could do this and call themselves a ‘Ben Torah’ is horrific.

Such evils single handedly undo any ‘Ben Torah’ arguments Chareidim use against the draft.

There is a special place reserved for such people.

  2. “….we saw an effigy of a soldier hanging over the rooftops in Meah Shearim, and no chareidi MK or official even issued a condemnation”…

An appropriate response would be for the government to just hang effigies of those Chareidi MKs and their “leaders” on poles outside the Knesset building.

  3. The irony is that if the zionists switched to a western-style “professional” (i.e. volunteer military) they would have a more competent military, and all hareidi opposition would vanish (though some hareidim would want the right to serve in the military).

  4. This is unacceptable. It is one thing to have political actions against the draft, and another thing entirely to in effect advocate lynching hareidim who serve in the IDF. The hareidi politicians in the Knesset are defending Hareidi principles in acceptable ways. Mobbing soldiers in Meah Shearim or hanging effigies is just plain hooliganism. It also makes a terrible impression on other Jews. I remember when the stone-throwers were trying to close the Ramot road, and it did us absolutely no good politically in terms of getting Shabbos laws enforced. We can’t expect traditional and hiloni people to respect Yiddishkeit if we don’t act with derech eretz ourselves.

  5. My dream is,that eventually there would be some kind of final peace agreement with the Palestinians, which most probably will include some form of land swaps, and MEAH SHEARIM with it’s criminal and traitorous MEDINA hating gangsters
will be handed over to their Palestinian friends,if that happens will give a big KIDDUSH

  6. Akuperma, Are you 100% sure that transitioning to an all volunteer army will be adequate to protect a tiny country surrounded by a hundreds of millions of enemies. We are dealing with pekuach nefesh so you must be 100% sure in order to make such a decision. For the record this idea was brought up by Moshe Feiglin but what Akuperma fails to mention is that it was never suggested as a complete substitute for the draft rather the professional army will operate as the regular army and the whole population will be drafted into the reserves which would include yearly basic training to be ready in case of an emergency. Would the opponents all be on board with that???

  7. chugibugi – the chareidi leadership of Yerushalayim already suggested back in the 1940s, to the Peel Commission, that Yerushalayim be internationalized, as they did not want to live under zionist rule. Guess what? The zionists did not agree. They want everything for themselves, including all chareidim to become frei.
Hanging effigies like this is one excellent way of showing the zionists that they will not win their battle to secularize the country. The true chareidi position is that there is no Torah permission to establish a state, and no Torah permission to be part of the apparatus supporting its existence (army, police etc.). Even Agudah agreed with this in principle (once upon a time); they just disagreed on how one should practically relate to the state already in existence.
A chareidi soldier in the IDF is a contradiction in terms, understandable to anyone who cares about Torah hashkafah. Certain contemporary “gedolim” have warped this position with absolutely nothing to support their position.

  8. yehuda26 -In other word you are telling me those ignorant savages will be happy to live under the PLO or Hammas ,if so-let’s bring it on and we will see how that will work out for them,LOL.
You and i know that after 3 months under the benevolent leadership of those Arab murderers those traitorous ignorant savages will be crawling on their hands and feet and begging the Zionist’s to please take them back in.

And by the way,i am sure you are aware that before the Zionist’s (Jews) took over Eretz Yisroel, under the Turks the Yishuv -literally was dying from hunger and filth and disease,it is only after the Zionist’s introduced modern farming methods and modern medicines with hygiene that life became bearable ,
but of course i know i am wasting my time arguing with you, because most probably you were raised in that insane asylum called “Satmar” and your mind has been destroyed and brainwashed with a pathological and insane hatred towards our one and only God given homeland Eretz Yisroel, based on that antisemitic manifesto “Vayoel Moshe”

  9. “……the chareidi leadership of Yerushalayim already suggested back in the 1940s, to the Peel Commission, that Yerushalayim be internationalized, The true chareidi position is that there is no Torah permission to establish a state, Even Agudah agreed with this in principle (once upon a time);….”
Hey buddy….. It’s here, because of the will of Hashem… Put the old chareidi positon in sheimas already…. how much longer are you guys gonna maale-geiru the past and keeping chewing and chewing,?

“…… Certain contemporary “gedolim” have warped this position with absolutely nothing to support their position…..”
There’s plenty to support. In the meantime these “certain contemporary “” gedolim””. are the contemporary Yehoshua & Calevs….. Bravo, Bravissimo..!!!

  10. “…….already suggested back in the 1940s, to the Peel Commission, … ” Once upon a time,” tra-la-la lullaby

Yup…. In 2018 , president Trump of the greatest and most powerful nation on earth declared Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish State of Israel… Lev Melachim Beyad Hashem…
Go back to the Shmeeeeel commission and whine…
Meraglim yalk mahn, meraglim pilpul… heard that before… Yawn…

  11. “……after 3 months under the benevolent leadership of those Arab murderers those traitorous ignorant savages will be crawling on their hands and feet and begging the Zionist’s to please take them back ….”
    Of course.
They regurgitate Schlemeeel Commissions and other shards of facts but neglect to tell you what the Jordanians did to Jerusalem in 1948, beating, murdering and chasing Jews out and destroying shuls and yeshivos. This bit of inconvenient truth is ignored, but they luv to blitz us with age-old info, most taken out of context or shamelessly and/or revisioned altogether.
The fanatical anti-Zionists are mumches in this sort of propaganda.

  12. What concerns me is how can anybody that calls themselves Jewish waste even the tiniest amount of the holy day of Purim on this nonsense that will bring hate, hurt feelings, and destruction.
Purim was meant to be a day to increase the achdut among Klal Yisrael, and not to do this sort of rubbish that will just
    lead to more disunity.
