Israel Police has launched a new campaign publicizing its new hotline of 110. The new number will be used to field public calls that are routine or simple inquiries in order to offload these calls from the currently overburdened emergency number of 100.
An announcement by the police has stated that the current number of 100, will continue to operate for emergencies only. Th campaign is starring Israeli stand-up artist Nadav Abuksis and is targeting the entire population of the country via TV, radio and internet ads. The new hotline will handle any and all non-emergency calls such as: Traffic issues, the opening and closing of roadways, quality of life complaints, licensing and business requests as well as any other non-emergency calls.
The National Security Minister Gilad Erdan said: “The campaign which we are kicking off today is part of an enormous undertaking that the Israeli Police are undertaking in an effort to provide better service for Israeli citizens. On the one hand, we are working to provide better service while on the other hand we are aiming to take a large part of the burden off of the current emergency hotline. This will hopefully lower response times so that the police can be more effective and save more lives.”

Correction. The number is not new, and has been used for years to obtain up to date info about road closures and other logistical info. I know I’ve used it in the past, several years ago, and have 110 saved in my phone as “Road Info”. Evidently, they’ve expanded what the line is for, in addition to trying to get the word out to the public, so they stop calling the cops for pettier issues.
