Herzog Officially Resigns From Knesset

The outgoing leader of the opposition in the Israeli Knesset, Isaac Herzog, has officially handed in his resignation from the Knesset to deputy Speaker of the Knesset MK Hamad Amar.

Upon exiting Hamad’s office Herzog said: “I believe that it is symbolic that my letter of resignation I gave to the Deputy Speaker of the Knesset who is a member of the Druze community. Following the recent uproar surrounding the Nationality Law and the protest held by the Druze community, for me, it is more than a simple honor to submit my resignation to an MK who is from the Druze community.”

Herzog also said: “Today, I take my leave of the Knesset, but not from public life. I will continue to work with many of my friends and acquaintances from this building with regards to many important public works. I am thankful for the past 15 years that I served here in this building. I am taking a new path in order to continue to serve my nation, the Jewish people, my homeland, and to help build the connection between them in order to build more unity for the Jewish people and in the nation of Israel. I look forward to strengthening the connection between Israel and the Diaspora.”
