Palestinian Arson Attack Against Jerusalem Apartment Hotel Motivated By Revenge

The Israel Police announced on Monday, 25 Menachem Av, that it will file a statement against three suspects in the investigation into the arson incident at a hotel in central Jerusalem about 10 days ago.

“This is a serious crime that resulted in the injury of more than 10 people, including a policeman, and could have resulted in a very serious disaster both in life and in property, especially in these serious crimes. We will not relax and act with all the tools at our disposal against those involved, “the police said on Monday.

The police investigation began shortly after receiving the call for a fire in a motel on HaNevi’im Street in central Jerusalem, a fire that began to spread in the area, injuring more than 10 people, including four members of one family who were seriously injured. A policeman was among the injured in the blaze.

Police apprehended the primary suspect in the case, a 30-year-old eastern Jerusalem resident. He has since admitted to his actions and reenacted how he started the fire at the scene. The suspect admitted the arson was motivated by financial dispute and he wanted revenge. Police initially suspected the fire may have been nationalistically motivated.

In addition, a 22-year-old suspect, who was arrested and interrogated by the police, was suspected of having knowledge of the main suspect’s intentions and allegedly also assisting him in order to disrupt his identification after the offense was committed.

The suspects’ detention was extended numerous times in court, and on Monday, the police filed a statement with the prosecution against the three suspects for the offenses attributed to them in the hearing on extending their remand.

Another detainee, the suspect’s husband, was released from his detention apparently without being indicted.
