A special day of appreciation for the contribution of National Service volunteers from the chareidi community of the Ministry of Public Security was held on Monday, 1 Rosh Chodesh Marcheshvan in Tiveria. In the special ceremony held in the presence of the Director-General of the Ministry of Public Security, Mr. Moshe (Chico) Edri and the outgoing Director-General of the National Civil Service, Mr. Shalom Jerbi, certificates of appreciation were distributed to the outstanding participants and volunteers.

The National Civil Service volunteers in the Ministry of Public Security contribute to the community in various frameworks: 120 volunteers serve in the security forces, including the Israel Police, the National Fire & Rescue Authority, the Israel Prison Service and the Witness Protection Authority, and 200 additional volunteers within the framework of the civil prevention bodies of the Ministry under the authority to combat violence in dugs and alcohol.

In the security organizations, the volunteers serve in the roles of field patrols, firefighter assistants, dispatchers, staff positions, combat support, computer logistics, cyber and more. In the Authority for Combating Violence, drugs & alcohol are used by volunteers as mentors in formal and informal frameworks of chareidi society, thereby contributing to the improvement of the educational climate in the institutions in which they volunteer and help prevent violence and dropping out of society. In addition, volunteers tour the youth centers of the chareidi community in order to serve as a listening ear for youth, to help locate youth in distress and refer them to the relevant authorities.

The volunteers of the National Civil Service receive the support and backing of professional bodies for optimal absorption in the various frameworks, in order to ensure that there is no harm to their way of life.

“The Ministry of Public Security is working to increase the number of volunteers. We are currently training volunteers for the cyber network of the police to protect the children and youth on the Internet and we are sure that the volunteers of chareidi society have a lot to contribute in this field too.

“There are 18,000 employees and this represents a growth of 8,000 since 2010. The chareidi volunteers arrive because the power of volunteering and giving is in their souls,” said Sar-Shalom Jerbi, director of the National Service.
