The IDF Wraps Up 2018 With Fewer Casualties B”H


The IDF sums up a year of activity and compares the number of casualties in recent years.

• In 2015, 360 people were injured as a result of terror attacks, 25 civilians were killed and 3 members of the security forces.
• In 2016, 263 people were injured, 17 were killed, 13 of them civilians and 4 security forces.
• In 2017, 169 people were injured, 20 were killed, of which 8 civilians and 12 security forces.
• In 2018, 199 people were injured, 16 were killed as a result of terrorism, of which 9 were civilians and 7 security forces.

In the Southern District, there were about 1,000 launches into Israeli territory, 250 intercepts and 45 rockets impacted in urban areas. On the other hand, the IDF attacked 865 times in Gaza. In addition, 15 tunnels were destroyed this year, including one marine tunnel, and 27 kilometers were built from the underground barrier.

In the Northern District, five terrorist tunnels were neutralized, some 13 kilometers (8.07 miles) were built from the 9-meter-high (9.84 yards) fence of the “Interlocking Stone” (אבן משתלבת) project, and an additional 2.5km (1.5 miles) were added to the border fence in the Golan Heights.

Throughout Yehuda and Shomron, there were 893 firebomb attacks, 33 shooting attacks and 17 stabbing attacks.

The IAF carried out 2,000 sorties and 150 rescue & evacuation sorties. The IAF collaborated with 15 different countries, and the farthest flight destination this year was Alaska. The navy on the other hand, only arrived as far as the port of Toulon, France, in addition to the fleets of thirty-seven foreign nations docking in Israeli ports.

  1. The B”H in the headline of this article is misplaced. The insinuation is that everything is going well because less people were murdered this year than last.
    I am sure all agree that even one murdered Jewish soul is a national calamity and a situation which cannot be accepted under any situation. No congratulations are in order , no pats on the back should be extended. While the numbers have gone down, there can be no respite from our Tefillot and our vigilance.
