Shaked Believes This May Be Bibi’s Last Term

According to Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, who has announced her break from Bayit Yehudi along with party leader Minister Naftali Bennet to form the New Right party, is predicting this may be Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s last term in office.

Addressing the Kalkalist Economic Summit, Shaked explained, “I believe that this will be the last term of the prime minister because he is not young and there are investigations and we do not know what will happen with the interrogations … I keep saying that I very much hope that the cases against him will be closed and that we will be able to return to normal. My opinion remains that certainly, until the final decision of the attorney general, that is, after a hearing, there is no need to do anything.

“If chas v’sholom, after the attorney general’s hearing, he decides to file an indictment, then we will sit down and look at the data and decide what to do.
It should be noted that according to the law, the prime minister can stay until a final verdict in the case is rendered, [after a trial,] and the rationale says that the decision of one person, the attorney general, will not topple a government.”

Shaked was asked to comment on recent polls, stating, “We did not think we would get 20 Knesset seats on the first poll. We aspire to a double-digit number of mandates. It’s no secret that I want to keep the justice portfolio, and in previous governments we influenced many crossroads in addition to what each one of us did in office. We influenced dramatic points”.
