Minister Erdan Prevents An Official PA Event From Taking Place In Jerusalem

Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan instructed his subordinates to prevent an event sponsored by the Palestinian Authority (PA) that was planned to take place in East Jerusalem. Minister Erdan signed an order to prevent the event from being held.

Minister Erdan: “I will continue to act vigorously to prevent any violation of Israeli sovereignty in all parts of our capital.”

Minister of Public Security and Strategic Affairs Gilad Erdan signed an order on Monday morning to close an event that was supposed to take place later in the day under the auspices of the PA in Mukassed Hospital in East Jerusalem.

The event, which was supposed to take place under the aegis of the PA, was supposed to include Palestinian sovereign symbols such as the Palestinian Authority anthem, political speeches on behalf of the Palestinian Authority and the participation of senior PA officials, including PA Minister Jawad Awad and Adnan al-Husayni, the PA’s Minister of Jerusalem Affairs and a member of the PLO Directorate.

The order of Minister Erdan does not permit PA activities in East Jerusalem, in accordance with section 3(a) of the Implementation of the Interim Agreement on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip (Restriction of Activity) Law, 5755-1994, which prohibits the Palestinian Authority from opening or operating a representative office or activity within the borders of the State of Israel, and authorizes the Minister of Public Security to prohibit an order to carry out such activity.

It is pointed out that the execution of the minister’s order will in no way compromise hospital operations.

Erdan maintains a hardline policy regarding any and all PA activities in the capital, and this is not the first time that he has issued an order prohibiting a scheduled PA event from taking place.
