In an operation aimed at apprehended illegals weapons in predominantly Arab eastern Jerusalem, Jerusalem police have apprehended two assault rifles, one with a sniper scope.
On the night between Sunday and Monday, February 10th to 11th, police detectives backed up by border police and their K9 unit, raided the homes of two Arab residents of East Jerusalem, arresting two suspects in their 30s. A subsequent search led to the discovery of the two weapons and ammunition. They were arrested for illegal possession of weapons and ammunition and they were arraigned. The court ordered them held in custody until Thursday, February 14, 2019.
Police will bring them for another arraignment hearing, at which time they will ask to extend their detention again as the investigation continues.

How easily the term “assault rifle” is bandied about! The photo on top is of an M1 Garand, capacity of eight rounds. It was the primary infantry rifle of the US during WWII. The photo below it is of a single-shot .22, the type that Sears, Roebuck and Montgomery Ward sold for $20 or less about fifty years ago. The Jerusalem police need learn more about small arms before going for the sensational headlines.
No assault rifles noted in these pictures, not even by California definition.
