1000s of Chareidim Protest Eurovision Chilul Shabbos [VIDEO & PHOTOS]

Thousands of chareidim in Yerushalayim took to the streets of on Shabbos to protest the mass Chilul Shabbos surrounding the Eurovision Song Contest hosted in Tel Aviv.

The protestors were on HaNeve’im Street until the corner of Shivtei Yisrael Street, accompanied by the Toldos Aharon Rebbe Shlita and his chassidim. Simultaneously, hundreds headed towards the city center, protesting against shops that were open on the holy day. One protestor in downtown Jerusalem was arrested for allegedly striking a policeman. As seen in the accompanying video, protestors also blocked vehicles and a confrontation resulted between them and a driver.

Six persons were detained by police during protests in the Meah Shearim area. Two policemen were injured.

In a related matter, some 50 demonstrators on Friday night tried to protest against Chilul Shabbos outside the Prime Minister’s Residence in Jerusalem but were distanced from the area by police. It was PM Netanyahu who granted an unprecedented 30,000 permits for Chilul Shabbos to accommodate hosting the international song competition.

  1. I haven’t seen them yet….but are we allowed to watch these clips if they were filmed by Yeiden on shabbos?

  2. Obviously we are opposed to chilul shabbos and the decrees of the gedolim are to be followed, but what did this accomplish? What one single yid did this bring closer to hashem? Did any goy (or yid) see this and think greater of hkbh? I’m not second guessing, ch’v, I’m asking the logic behind the protest besha’as ma’aseh on shabbos kodesh, rather than a protest prior or after, or not at all, or in any other form other than a headline and thing for tatty to do on shabbos rather than a million other kiddushdig inyanim they could have been doing on shabbos. I just don’t get it.

Have you ever seen someone screaming in physical or emotional pain? Why don’t you explain to them that screaming doesn’t help …

I am totally maskim to every single word you said, and I don’t get it either. I don’t know if Hashem would want this from us more than adding 20min to kedushas hashabbos as the gedolim said.

Are you serious? The topic isn’t screaming. The topic is these alleged observers of Shabbos deliberately leaving their Shabbos (physically, geographically, emotionally and psychologically) in order to make other people’s lives as miserable as possible. Their behaviour is simply increasing Chillul Shabbos and makes no more sense than rubbing salt into a wound to make the pain stop.
