Court Rejects Petition Against The Waqf Opening A Mosque At Shar Rachamim

Justice Meni Mazuz rejected a request by the Regavim Movement to stop Waqf construction at Shar Rachamim.

Supreme Court Justice Meni Mazuz rejected another request by the Regavim Movement to issue an interim order to stop the illegal work carried out by the Muslim Waqf at Shar Rachamim on Har Habayis, as they have violated a government order and converted it into another mosque.

The second request was filed after the Waqf continued its illegal work in recent weeks, despite a closure order issued by the Magistrate’s Court in Jerusalem last March, which ordered the closure of the compound for all activities.

The works included the installation of a speaker for muezzin, the deployment of new prayer mats, the installation of lighting chandeliers and partitions.

Mazuz wrote in his decision that “after examining the request and the respondents’ responses, I did not see any change regarding my decision of March 19, 2019 in which I did not find cause for an interim order.”

Attorney Avi Segal of the Regavim Movement said in response to the decision: “Unfortunately, the state has broken all its obligations and is awarding those who blatantly trample the law. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court did not block this flawed and distorted behavior.”
