Newly Elected Meretz Leader Calls To Shut Down The Chief Rabbinate

Nitzan Horowitz, the incoming leader of the left-wing Meretz party, is calling to shut down the Chief Rabbinate of Israel. This is prompted by the Chief Rabbinate’s refusal to revoke the semicha of Rabbi Moti Elon, a rav convicted of assaults against talmidim. Horowitz explained the Chief Rabbinate is a “dark and obsolete” organization that only worries about its own agenda.

Horowitz joined the voice of the Kolech organization against Elon and the fact that a convicted person such as he can be permitted to maintain is title of rav.

  1. The state rabbinate’s primary job is to keep the frum Israeli population in line by handing out patronage and favors. If it were abolished the leaders of the religious community would be the hareidi (non-zionist) gedolim, and the leaders of the ultra-nationalists. So instead of one pliable “Chief rabbinate” to do the state’s bidding, there were e two groups of rabbinical leaders who are most important matters are opposed to the government and would not hesitate to stay so. It is in the interests of medinah’s secular leadership to preserve their “official” rabbinate.

  2. i think we should honor his request, just like a prison or execution center honors the dying mans last request. Let meretz have a bit of happiness before they and all their traitor friends are finished for good.

the end of secularism in israel is around the corner according to all reports and studies so i think we should honour the request to abolish the rabbjmate and ahortly after we will rejnstate a full rabbinic state or halachic state as they call it and promote everything that they mocked and enshrine halacha into law with the rabbinical council penalizing thoar who break halacha with prison

  3. since the chief rabbinate was destroyed by selecting the felon as chief rabbi with the support of YOU KNOW WHO, the institution is a source of misery for the State. the sooner it is destroyed the better.
