Meretz & Labor Parties Nearing A Deal

Newly elected Labor party leader MK Amir Peretz is working hard, continuing efforts to create a left-wing/centrist bloc ahead of elections towards unseating Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

Labor party chairman, MK Amir Peretz, continues to meet with Meretz party chairman, MK Nitzan Horowitz, and it is reported the two are close to agreement regarding running together in the upcoming Knesset election on Tuesday, September 17, 2019. The two last met on Tuesday in Tel Aviv.

According to a report filed by Yuval Karnei in Yediot Achronot, the two reached “agreement in principle” on core issues, and it does appear they will sign an agreement in the coming days.

It is also reported that former prime minister, Ehud Barak and his Democratic Israel party are not in the negotiating loop between Labor and Meretz. It now appears unlikely that a deal will be reached between Labor and Barak.
