Chareidi Mom Drove With Two Daughters In The Trunk Of The Vehicle

During routine traffic police operations in Tzefas on Monday, a policeman saw a station wagon with tinted windows, including cloth drapes on the windows. When he stopped the vehicle for a routine check, he was surprised to find that there were two children in the trunk, two of the driver’s daughters, ages four and six.

He also found five children in the rear seat, when the law only permits three. The children including a toddler and a five-month-old, sitting without a car seat with a 13-year-old daughter holding her.

Police realized the chareidi mom was traveling with her eight children in the vehicle, which can legally accommodate five passengers. In addition, the young ones who required car seats did not have them.

Police point out most of the children in the rear seat also not using seat belts.

  1. meh, I used to do that some 30 years ago except the kids in the ‘trunk’ of my station wagon would be told to lie down if we saw police….
Once got stopped and had to let the kids out. They walked around the corner as if to get a bus and I picked them up and drove on home. Guess I am (or was) a law breaker, but in Israel, remember, the law is only l’chatchila, but be’de’eved no one follows it. But times do change

  2. The European cars, not all have trunks but rather a flatback with a cardboard cover, which can be removed, for luggage or packages. It is not a trunk, it’s part of the car as far as ventilation and air conditioning. Also, some models of these cars, the registration doesn’t specify the passenger capacity. (But you still need to be seat belted.)
I still wonder, why when you put your kids in a taxi you don’t need car seats or sitting piggyback on a motorcycle you don’t need seatbelts. But, the private sector will get fined and arrested for lack of childcare.

  3. There is a real problem for large families that need automobile transportation. Few cars can hold more than 5 passengers legally/safely. Bigger minivans are more expensive than 5-passenger cars. If Jews really ran the world, there would be cheaper mini-vans that safely and legally hold 9 passengers.

  4. yehudayona – I had the same question. I hate these non-informational articles on YWN that are copied straight from some Israeli news site and run through Goggle translate.

Like that one yesterday about the police investigating a noise coming from someone’s trunk. That was the worst news report ever. No news at all in fact.

  5. Volg and others — Would you rather see such driving behavior move onto the next stage? Then YWN would post more “newsy” items indeed, full of dead Yidden and anguished comments such as “Tehillim!” and “why, why, why?”

  6. So i thought it meant in the trunk like old mafia style, quite a story and understandably reported, but if it means a station wagon style trunk, then takkeh its Meh. Probably the dude who gets the stories for YWN was mamash going with the ershteh mehalech
