Likud Calls On Pollsters To List Yisrael Beitenu As Left-Wing

The Likud party continues campaigning for the upcoming election for 22nd election, and it appears that simultaneously, the party is working to neutralize the party headed by MK Avigdor Lieberman, the Yisrael Beitenu party, as currently the party is predicted to receive 10 seats.

To date, pollsters list results according to party and bloc, with the latter divided into two blocs, right-wing/chareidi and left-wing/centrist. Lieberman has been listed separately since if he really receives 10 seats, he will be the key to forming any coalition government, left or right-wing. He is publicly calling for the formation of a broad-based national unity liberal coalition government without the chareidi parties and pollsters list him independent of the blocs.

Likud officials are trying to persuade the pollsters to include Lieberman’s party with the left-wing, and not as an independent entity as has been the case, aware such a move would negatively impact many of its voters.

  1. 1, “Right” and “Left” refer to seating in the French parliament in the late 18th century, at a time where French Jews could neither vote nor hold office.

    2. If you regard being pro- and anti- Yiddishkeit as the basic issue, then Lieberman is a leftist. Many Israeli regard economic policy and relations with the Arabs as more important. It should be noted that most hareidim probably regard Yiddishkeit (pro- in their case) as more important than economics or the Arabs.
