Approval for an Additional Lane on the [Jerusalem/ Gush Etzion] Tunnel Highway

The IDF Civil Administration has approved the paving of an additional lane on the Tunnel Highway, which connects southern Jerusalem to Gush Etzion. The additional lane will be from the tunnels to Elazar Junction.

The roadway expansion was approved on Wednesday, a reality that is long overdue, as traffic for daily commuters on the heavily-traveled road is far from pleasant.

The doubling of the current size was praised by the head of the Gush Etzion Regional Council, Shlomo Neeman. “The drive from Gush Etzion to Jerusalem will be shortened significantly, providing a welcome solution to residents and reduce the day-to-day difficulties surrounding the regular traffic tie-ups. We will continue working to improve transportation in Gush Etzion.”

Today, the highway consists of one lane in each direction, without shoulders. Traffic is heavy most of the day, and without a doubt during the morning rush hour when Gush residents head to the capital and in the opposite direction during the late afternoon/evening hours. The road serves the residents of Gush Etzion, Betar Illit, Kiryat Arba, Hebron, Tzur Hadassah, Mevo Betar and Matte Yehuda residents.

  1. by the time they build the new tunnel, they will need to increase to a third tunnel. People are getting more cars and more and more people are moving into settlements there.

(Oooops, is it ok to mention settlements, I mean, maybe it is like being a racist?)
