Lieberman’s Ultimatum Towards Establishing a Coalition Government

MK Avigdor Lieberman, Chairman of the Yisrael Beitenu party on motzei Shabbos announced his new ultimatum vis-à-vis joining a coalition government. Lieberman announced that “whomever makes the wrong decision, he will support the other side”, telling News12 that everyone involved must compromise.

Lieberman stated he plans to speak with both Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Blue & White party Chairman MK Benny Gantz this week, citing the need for both to compromise towards preventing new elections.

He calls on Gantz to accept President Reuven Rivlin’s compromise plan and simultaneously, calling on PM Netanyahu to disassemble his bloc of 55 with the chareidim and dati leumi parties.

Likud officials responded, telling the media that there is nothing new with Lieberman’s latest list of demands and in fact, everyone is working towards compromise with the exception of Lieberman. They add that Netanyahu will not abandon the parties in his bloc, which is comprised of Yahadut Hatorah, Shas, Bayit Yehudi and New Right, with the latter having joined with Likud for now as part of the deal to appoint Naftali Bennet to the post of Defense Minister.

  1. If Likud and “Blue and white” form a coalition, they need neither Lieberman not the Hareidim (i.e. they only have to split the patronage two ways).

  2. in fact, everyone is working towards compromise with the exception of Lieberman Order this creature under penalty of law, to go to Binding Mediation! Period!
