Number of IDF Troops Diagnosed With COVID-19 Rises Dramatically

The number of Coronavirus patients in the ranks of the IDF has significantly increased since the beginning of the month, and even more so over the past week, with 93 new cases in the past few days.

A total of 27 of the newly diagnosed soldiers were located at Bahad 11, a training base in the Negev for the Adjutant Corps, a support corps in the IDF Human Resources Directorate. The base also houses the training center for the Rabbinical clergy of the IDF.

There are currently over 2,700 troops in quarantine, up from 350 at the beginning of June, 200 of whom are from Bahad 11.

Among those in quarantine are numerous high-ranking officials including the head of the IDF’s C4I & Cyber Defense Directorate Maj.-Gen. Lior Carmeli, Incoming Central Command head Maj-Gen. Tamir Yadai, Southern Command head Maj-Gen.Hertzi Halevi, Gaza Division Commander Brig.-Gen.Eliezer Toledano, and 80th Division Commander Brig.-Gen. Gur Schriebmann.

IDF Deputy Chief of Staff Maj.-Gen. Eyal Zamir has been coordinating the military’s response to the virus since the first outbreak began along with the Operations Directorate led by Maj.-Gen. Aaron Haliva, the Medical Corps and the Homefront Command.
