Uman Mayor Protests Rosh Hashana Visitors With Sleeping Bag & Pillow

Uman mayor settles for the night outside President's office.

The mayor of Uman, Oleksandr Tsebriy, has settled outside the office of Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev, equipped with a pillow, sleeping bag and folding chair, in a “protest” against the mass arrival of Jews to Uman for Rosh Hashanah.

Tsebriy wants the Ukrainian government to forbid visitors to Uman before Rosh Hashanah due to the coronavirus pandemic and is waiting outside Zelensky’s office in a bid to meet with him regarding the issue, even equipping himself with a certificate that he is negative for the coronavirus. However, at least so far, he has not been admitted to the presidential office.

The mayor said that he is even prepared to block the entrance of Uman with checkpoints if the visitors aren’t banned.

Israel and Ukraine issued a joint statement on Tuesday discouraging visitors from coming to Uman for Rosh Hashanah due to fears of sparking a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

  1. Good for him! We should all protest their unwanted insanity. The sad part is that we are scared of them and that is why we don’t speak out. Their rank and file are made up of hooligans who are prone to violence and naive geverim who think it’s cute and fun to get away with the boys and party with the holy brothers. This gets worse and worse every year. Hashem Yirachem !

  2. Uman Mayor Protests Rosh Hashana Visitors He is so correct, because way more important:-
    1) To fulfill Mitzwah of Simchas Yom-Tov with their wife & children over Rosh-haShona
    2) Not to induce a situation o0f being in quarantine over Yom-Kippur & 1st part of Sukkos

  3. There are a lot of real and true bresslev hassidim who want to go for Rosh Hashana to visit the kever of R Nachman and they have been going for years. Ukraine has been opened to foreigners for the past few months. To not allow specifically Israelis to go to Ukraine for Rosh Hashana is a decision that cannot be made. Who are you to stop only specifically people going to Uman from going where they want to go. You allow anyone else to leave Israel and go abroad, as long as they quarantine on their return to Israel. Why is Uman different? Because its a bigger number of people? So fine set up regulations that need to be followed. But to stop only the Uman travellers from travelling to Uman is a whole new level.

  4. Completely irresponsible to go.. the Ukrainians shouldn’t let thousands of ppl in!! One person comes in sick thousands and thousands of people will get sick!! The flights home will be rescue missions or worse…

  5. Its rare that we would applaud the actions of a Ukranian public official, whatever his motives. Hopefully, the Breslov leadership will regain their senses and cancel this mindless “pilgrimage” at least for this year. All the idiots who wish to go party in Uman and engage in some “new age” avodah zorah should be allowed to go but never allowed to return until after the pandemic is over. Let them stay in Uman.
