A Norwegian official nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in fostering the historic peace agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Fox News reported on Wednesday morning.
Trump’s nomination was submitted by Christian Tybring-Gjedde, a four-term member of the Norwegian Parliament.
“For his merit, I think he has done more trying to create peace between nations than most other Peace Prize nominees,” Tybring-Gjedde, said in an interview with Fox.
Tybring-Gjedde wrote in his nomination letter to the Nobel Committee that not only did the Trump administration have a key role in the historic agreement between Israel and the UAE, but that the agreement could lead to lasting change in the entire Middle East.
“As it is expected, other Middle Eastern countries will follow in the footsteps of the UAE. This agreement could be a game-changer that will turn the Middle East into a region of cooperation and prosperity.”
The letter also mentioned Trump’s “key role in facilitating contact between conflicting parties and … creating new dynamics in other protracted conflicts, such as the Kashmir border dispute between India and Pakistan, and the conflict between North and South Korea, as well as dealing with the nuclear capabilities of North Korea.”
This is Trump’s second nomination, as Tybring-Gjedde and another Norwegian official, as well as the prime minister of Japan, already submitted Trump’s name in 2018 for his Singapore summit with North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un. Needless to say, Trump did not win.
Tybring-Gjedde, who belongs to a conservative populist party, told Fox that he’s not a personal fan of Trump but he believes that the Peace Prize should be awarded based on the “the facts.”
“I’m not a big Trump supporter,” he said. “The committee should look at the facts and judge him on the facts – not on the way he behaves sometimes. The people who have received the Peace Prize in recent years have done much less than Donald Trump. For example, Barack Obama did nothing.”

Trump should decline. UN is afraid of total defunding coming in his second term. UN has been anti Israel and pro China (virus) for too long.

Being nominated is no big deal. Pretty much anyone can send in a nomination, and thousands are received every year. Trump has been nominated before, but he stands no chance of winning, for which he should be grateful. It’s not an honor to be nominated for this prize, and given the history of who has won it it’s certainly no honor to win. I think Trump would rather not be in the company of the past winners of this disgraceful prize.

I’m no major Trump fan and I certainly don’t believe that The Noble Peace Prize always goes to worthy recipients but end of the day who accomplished more for world peace this year than Trump with the Israel UAE deal and his minor involvement in the Kosovo Serbia deal ?

To nowayhobidiah: As a liberal, not especially crazy, I can assure you that I would not go crazy (or crazier, if you insist) if Trump got the prize. But I would like to see what he does with the money. Obama donated it to a charity. I don’t think Trump would do that, and under creditors’ rights laws, he may not be allowed to it because he may be insolvent.
Its a rare instance that I agree with Milhouse but likely that agreement is premised on a totally different perspective. As Reb Milhouse correctly notes, virtually ANYONE can nominate ANYONE else for the Nobel Peace Prize and generally do. There are typically hundreds of nominees and in some years over a thousand. The criteria are broad enough such that Putin and the Ayatolah could also be included along with the Trumpkpof. Nominations have become a means for parties to curry favor with their nominees and expectations of some geopolitical quid pro quo are not out of the realm of imagination.

Was it Trump or was it Democrat Pelosi (similarly Democrats Cuomo and DeBlasio) who publicly encouraged everyone to go out to (as example) China town (another example – the Chinese parade) and eat and mingle?
And these and other Democrats (including their media mouth pieces) downplayed the virus for much longer than Trump ever did. In fact, the Democrat went wild at both ends – both downplaying to the extreme (using emotional blackmail to encourage people out to attend Chinese-related places or events by implying anyone who fails to do so is RACIST), and then all the way to the other end locking children up (despite being effectively immune). Trump kept a steady course – always correctly saying almost the same thing throughout – to use sensible precautions (the sick should stay isolated, everyone wash hands) but to NOT go extreme.
