Why Are 52% Of Older Israeli COVID Patients Chareidi?

Sheba Hospital

The Chareidi advocacy headquarters of Israel’s Health Ministry published data on Tuesday morning showing that 52% of coronavirus patients over 65 are Chareidi despite the fact that the Chareidi sector accounts for only 12% of Israel’s population.

Health Ministry officials believe that a large number of the Chareidi patients contracted the coronavirus during the Yamim Noramim tefillos.

“This is startling data,” the Health Ministry stated. “The Chareidi population accounts for only 12% of the population and the percentage of adults over 65 is only a few percent.”

The Health Ministry’s Chareidi advocacy headquarters stated: “The data reveals a reality contrary to the widespread feeling that older people are being very cautious and young people are protecting themselves out of fear of infecting the older adults in their families. The statistics speak for themselves and should be of particular concern to our community.”

  1. Many people who are inside a lot are Vitamin D deficient. Dr. Zev Zelenko recommends to take at least 1,000 IU of vitamin D a day, 50 MG Zinc a day, 500 MG Quercitin, Vitamin A and C each day to build up your immune system. Even if you were to contract the Covid, if your immune system is healthy, you will most likely have mild symptoms. You will also have better healing with other issues with your health, also.

  2. y2r and crslkwd, your comments are helpful and clearly well intentioned but they are, as it were, bide’eved. I live in Jerusalem and I davened at home on Simchas Torah. My wife went for a walk and saw outdoor minyanim (that’s good) with chairs arranged for the requisite social distancing (even better). Nonetheless, she witnessed hakofos being conducted as usual, with mispalelim dancing closely together, for extended periods, filled with the joy of Simchas Torah. HaShem should grant them nissim that that’s all they are full of!

  3. Has anyone considered determining how many families in the religious sectors have contracted corona vs. families in the non-chareidi sectors? We account for around 10% (that’s the accurate number) of the population and our family size is around 10 individuals as opposed to the non-religious sector which ranges from 4 to 5 members on avg. Our communities are also more cramped (in Bnei Brak the joke goes, “What’s between one building and another”? Answer: “Another building”!) What’s more is we are more communal. These three factor play a significant role in the rate of infections.
They complain it is due to attending shul, but it may be spreading within the buildings themselves. We have 9 families in our three story building and have way over 70+ people living in our building. In Tel Aviv that number would be significantly reduced.
I’m of the opinion that if we examine how many families have been affected the numbers would not be as significant.

  4. Why Are 52% Of Older Israeli COVID Patients Chareidi?

    Because 13 out of 25 is 52%
and tomorrow they’ll say that 60% of covid patients are chareidim, that’s also true, cuz if you have 3 chareidim out of 5 patients you have 60% of covid patients Chareidi.
