Yamina leader Ayelet Shaked said on Monday that Chareidi pressure to reopen the educational system ultimately also led to the advancement of the plan for the reopening of the pubic educational system.

“The educational system was opened in the zechus of HaRav Kanievsky,” Shaked said. “All Israeli parents should say thank you to him.”

HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky was criticized by the secular sector for his instructions to reopen the Chareidi school system for boys in October. HaRav Chaim had concluded, after consulting with medical professionals and mechanchim that the spiritual dangers of children remaining at home outweighed the physical dangers of the children gathering at school.

A week ago, HaRav Chaim also instructed that all educational institutions for girls should be reopened as well.

  1. Despite otherwise “hyper lockdowns” (and alleged virus intensification) New York has announced opening of (at least elementary) public schools. And even Fauci has now come out publicly backing the opening of schools (that means about 60 million school children in the U.S.). In the entire U.S. there was a grand total to date of 123 COVID-19 linked deaths in those under age 18.

  2. Yeah… no. This Israeli parent would prefer the rabbis stayed in their lane, and the politicians listened to the doctors. What we have is chaos of openings and closings, half openings, and no one knowing what will happen from day to day. Parents want certainty more than anything. Cases are surging again, with the vast majority being in the good Rav’s sector of the population. Maybe we shouldn’t look to those doing the worst for medical advice.
