Prof. Asher Kasher is credited with being the father of the IDF’s Code of Ethics, the moral backbone of the army which guides Israel’s military in its day-to-day mission to protect the nation.

Prof. Kasher is now calling for an addition or an amendment to the current Code of Ethics, stating guidelines must be established to direct the decision-makers should the need arise again in the future towards negotiating the release of captive soldiers.

One of the points raised by Kasher is that in the future, talks between Israel and terrorists must be conducted under a media blackout, expressing his belief that media coverage of such events is counterproductive and possibly harmful.
