Sniper fire from Gaza was directed at farmers in the fields of Kibbutz Nachal Oz on Sunday. There were no injuries reported.
The incident was not report because shortly following the initial report, the IDF stated there was no gunfire directed at the workers but it has since been confirmed that the workers did indeed come under fire originating in Hamas-controlled Gaza.
One tractor was hit by gunfire in a potato field near the kibbutz. The windshield of the vehicle was blown out. B’chasdei Hashem the driver escaped injuries.
The attack comes as Defense Minister Ehud Barak permitted crop dusting planes to once again treat area fields. For the past 6 months, the small planes were barred from flying within a 4 kilometer (2.4 mile) range of the Gaza border.
Officials report the attack was the first involving sniper fire since the ceasefire began some three weeks ago. There was however numerous attacks involving Kassam rockets and mortar shell fire.
