PHOTOS – Jerusalem Bulldozer Attack on King David Street (UPDATED BELOW 5:20PM IL)

YW-Bulldozer Terror-20.jpg[NUMEROUS UPDATES & PHOTOS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE] 2:08PM IL: According to preliminary information, a man driving a bulldozer on King David Street near Keren HaYesod Street slammed into a number of vehicles, leading to a number of injuries. The driver was shot dead. The number of wounded and the extent of their injuries are unknown at this time.

2:15PM IL: According to Magen David Adom EMS officials, one person is being treated for serious injuries. Conflicting reports state the victim may have been wounded by gunfire, perhaps from the gunfire directed at the terrorist, the driver of the bulldozer on Jerusalem’s King David Street.

This report is based on early information as the probable terror attack unfolds on another Jerusalem street, less than a month after the first bulldozer terrorist murdered three people and injured over 75 on Jaffa Street. This incident occurred near a Yemin Moshe construction site.

Two vehicles were flipped over by the bulldozer and it appears one victim is trapped in one of the overturned vehicles. One of the vehicles was carrying an infant, who according to reports sustained light injuries.

A civilian and a border policeman fired at the driver of the bulldozer, killing him.

Additional details will be provided as the situation on Keren HaYesod Street, corner of King David Street in Yerushalayim becomes clear.

2:19PM IL: According to MDA spokesman Zaki Heller, two people are being transported to area hospitals in what appears to be a second bulldozer attack in Yerushalayim.

One victim sustained a moderate-to-serious injury to a leg, apparently crushed from the bulldozer. He is being transported to Shaare Zedek Medical Center’s trauma unit. A second victim is in less serious condition.

Additional details to follow as they become available.

2:28PM IL: There is no doubt that the quick response by at least one civilian and a border policeman prevented additional injuries and loss of life.

According to police on the scene, the terrorist did manage to strike two vehicles and then he was eliminated. It appears the driver of the bulldozer, in the presumed terror attack, came from the nearby construction site in the elite Yemin Moshe neighborhood, a short walking distance from the prestigious King David Hotel. The actual location of the attack is Keren HaYesod Street at the intersection of King David Street. The identity of the bulldozer driver is unknown at this time.

Two adults and two children are being treated in the emergency room of Shaare Zedek Medical Center, all listed in light condition. Reliable but yet unconfirmed reports state the victim with a moderate-to-serious leg injury was transported to the Hadassah Ein Kerem trauma unit and not Shaare Zedek as was reported earlier.

The situation appears to be under control at present, with the driver/terrorist eliminated, and police are working to piece together the events that occurred about a half hour ago.

Police are not yet confirming the event was indeed a terror attack, but all signs point to a lone terrorist who attempted to duplicate the attack that occurred on Jaffa Street on July 2, 2008.

2:31PM IL: The Jerusalem Municipality emergency number is 12-55-023-106.

2:39PM IL: According to combined sources, 12 people have been transported from the attack scene to Jerusalem Hospitals. It appears the victim with a crushed leg has lost the limb as a result and he/she is listed in serious condition. One other victim, apparently a female, has suffered a heart attack.

Following are emergency information numbers established by two hospitals:
Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital: 12-55-122
Shaare Zedek Medical Center: 12-55-125 Bikur Cholim Hospital: 12-55-123

2:45PM IL: The civilian who fired at the terrorist and wounded him is being identified as a resident of the Chevron Hills community of Suissa. Unconfirmed reports state the driver of the bulldozer was a resident of eastern Jerusalem. It appears the number of victims transported from the scene has climbed to 19.

3:04PM IL: The civilian who shot and wounded the bulldozer terrorist has been identified as Jackie Eshal, 53, the father of 8, and a resident of Suissa in the Chevron Hills region.

Police and intelligence agencies report there are 8 terror warnings today, none pointed to the bulldozer attack.

5:20PM IL: The bulldozer terrorist responsible for the Tuesday afternoon attack on Keren HaYesod Street has been identified as Ghasam Abu-Tir, 22, from the Jerusalem neighborhood of Um-Tuba, which happens to be relatively close to Tzur Bachar, the neighborhood of the 1st Bulldozer terrorist, Hussam Duwiyat.

The terrorist, who was shot dead at the scene is a relative of Hamas lawmaker Muhammad Abu Tir, one of the Hamas terrorists imprisoned in Israel.

  1. ywn thanks for being the FIRST on the net to cover this attack … i live here so i was searching ..only you guys covered it immediatly.. it should be for better things

  2. The 20 year old British Yedidya (Jeremy) Aronson who saved the baby in the last attack, also lives in Sussia (note correct spelling)!!

  3. The only viable strategy is to completely stop…without exception hiring arabs. Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky said so openly. Once they are hired they have complete access. Let the government stop worrying about what the world will say.

  4. Think about this:

DEBKA.com writes: “…A quick-thinking passing civilian and a border guard officer shot the driver dead Tuesday, July 22, after five vehicles and a bus were rammed opposite the LIBERTY BELL PARK,…”

Liberty Bell Park–that’s where the Toeva Parade held their rally a few weeks ago.

    A coincidence???

  5. BRAVO FOR KILLING THE TERRORIST.
I AM SHOCKED THAT THERE IS NO DEATH PENALTY FOR
TERRORISTS. ISRAEL SHOULD HAVE SWAPPED KUNTARS
BODY FOR THE BODIES OF THE ISRAELI SOLDIERS.
BUT WHY WAIT. SHOOT TO KILL THESE TERRORISTS
    AND BE DONE WITH THEM.

  6. Make a line of arab workers and drive a tractor over them…Midah Kneged Midah…

Seriously they should start sacking arab workers especially those with access to these huge machines…

  7. Why give so many details on the identity of the civilian who killed the terroist? Granted he is a hero, but shouldn’t we be concerned for his safety from other terroists?

  8. #14 you are correct….Kahane was a visionary who saw what was comming….but was too radical for the times…so they say….not by my way of thinking…..The Jewish people could use another Kahane NOW!!!

  9. Is the gag order over, I thought the name of the terrorist was released and a gag order was underway not to use the name until cleared by authorities.

  10. att #13. if u can say this, then you are partially siding with the arabs. would you rather have that newly built house and a tractor crashing right down on your car, or rather not build?
i would rather do construction with my own hands. if arabs wont do it- yidden will start taking these jobs. So you’ll have to pay them a bit more. Doesnt it pay off?
Arabs are a no no- make believe they dont exist. TOO BAD!
stop talking like a naive person. We are one family. You obviously dont feel that way, because these killed dont seem to bother you.

  11. Hashem Yerachem.

    There is only ONE answer:

    Teshuva, Tefillah and Tzeddaka, and

    increased limmud Hatorah.

May Hashem bring Moshiach immediately, Amen.

  12. mark levin: What Kahane said, getting rid of all yishmaelim. thats not the answer that will solve the problems of whats going on!

  13. #9 Deep Thinker:

Do you possess Nevuah that you can understand Why Hakadosh Baruch Hu chose to allow this to happen?

  14. Probably for another topic, but will there be enough construction workers should a decisions be implemented to hire non-Arabs (Jews, Russians, Thai, etc..) only? I have no idea whatsoever, just asking.

  15. #26 – I guess you haven’t read more of deepthinker’s comments. It seems that he has a direct line to the Ribbono Shel Olam, because he finds a coincidence in every tragedy. Almost like he’s trying to justify it.

  16. #30
he is at least TRYING to understand the messages H”BH is sending us.
you do realize Chazal tell us that all events in the world are messages to Klal Yisroel
you do realize that we are obligated to at least TRY to understand them, and to discuss them.
you do realize you are also obligated to give any Yid the benefit of the doubt, and certainly not to make snide remarks about him, and certainly not in public.
    yes?

  17. I”ll add to my previous comment;

The BBC is even more in the tank for the terrorists then Al Jazeera.

Al Jazeera reported: “The attack was the second such incident in west Jerusalem in three weeks. Three weeks ago, a similar attack took place in Jerusalem and left four people dead.”

So Al Jazeera, equated the two attacks, and didn’t seek to whitewash the first attack.

This BBC “news” organization should clean up their act.

In fact Israel ought to block the Israeli internet providers from being able to load BBC and bar BBC news reporters from operating in Israel for 3 years. If three years later, their act is cleaned up, they should release this embargo. What would America do if a NEWS site reported that 9/11 was not a politically motivated attack, rather a group of ‘simply disturbed men’ who missed a dose of their drugs?

  18. #31 Feivel —

1)Fine. You and Deep Thinker can both take this analysis and share it with the victims of this atrocity as well as the other bulldozer attack (Yasher Koach “Working Man” for pointing out the consistency). I am sure that they will feel comforted that you have come to such a shtark s’varah and conclusion.
    2) The remarks were aimed at the conclusion that deepthinker arrived at, which cause needless pain to those suffering, not him (or her). Note that there is no identity associated with Mr. Deepthinker.

  19. Maybe we are being reminded of what happened in the same city a few thousand years ago?

The fact that this is happening in the weeks of Bein Hametzarim cannot be a coincidence. Maybe we are being given another reason for availus? Maybe we are being shown that we should not be looking for ways to get around the signs of availus? Maybe no A Capella? Maybe no 9-day siyums?
