Ashkenazi Meeting in Washington with VP Cheney

cheney.jpgIDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi is scheduled to meet on Thursday in Washington with Vice President Dick Cheney. It is assumed that the main focus of their meeting will be the growing Iranian nuclear threat.

The IDF commander earlier in the visit explained that he views changes in the region, in which radical elements are seeking to dictate new facts on the ground. He stated that in the center of the extremism is Iran, seeking to achieve its goals by changing the regional balance of power.

He also blames Iran for working to place nuclear weapons in the hands of terror organizations such as Hizbullah. He stated that Iran’s aggressiveness must be halted, explaining that the current Iranian regime is seeking to change realities and influence the entire Mideast, Lebanon, the PA autonomous areas, Iraq and Afghanistan.

During his stay, the IDF commander is meeting with a number of senior officials, including the Chef of Joint Staff Admiral Michael Mullen, who recently visited Israel and was given a first-hand look at security concerns along Israel’s northern and southern borders.

The close ties being maintained between the two military leaders is a signal to many that America and Israel are indeed working in tandem towards coordinating a military strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities.

  1. Ashkenazi is meeting with the wrong man. The US’s prolonged and weakly fought war in Iraq has been a huge profitable venture for Cheney. Cheney may just want to open up shop in Iran, at the peril of others, too…heaven forfend.
