Over two years have passed since the Second Lebanon War, but that did not prevent Carmiel Mayor Adi Eldar and others from presenting the philanthropist with an award, recognition for his benevolent activities during the war on behalf of northern area residents.

After receiving letters calling upon the government to recognize Gaydamak’s actions, the Ministerial Awards & Ceremonies Committee did take action, deciding that the citation given to military personnel would also be awarded to deserving civilians. Defense Ministry officials have approved the move.

IDF officials responded with disapproval, stating that presenting the citation to business people cheapens the meaning of it and it is insulting to northern residents.
