Laborites affiliated with the camp of the former party leader, Amir Peretz, are working to pressure party leader Defense Minister Ehud Barak to hold party primaries. Peretz is Barak�s political nemesis and he is working in earnest to oust Barak from the party�s top slot.

Peretz is planning to compete in a race against Barak, confident he can earn his leadership position back. He is calling for primaries within the next two months.

Peretz backers insist that Barak�s leadership has been a colossal failure �and we needn�t wait until the national elections to prove this,� they explain.
