5 Officers Injured In Tulkarem From Their Own Grenade, 1 Critical, 2 In Serious Condition

Yasam special forces officers, Border Police officers, and IDF soldiers carried out a counterterrorism operation in the Tulkarem refugee camp in the pre-dawn hours of Thursday morning and arrested a terror suspect.

In the course of the operation, terrorists opened live fire and threw explosives at the Israeli security forces who responded with live fire. Several terrorists were hit by gunfire.

As the forces were leaving the area at the end of the operation, with the gun battle still underway, five undercover officers were injured, three seriously and two moderately. A preliminary investigation revealed that the officers were injured by a hand grenade that they threw at the terrorists – which hit a metal gate and boomeranged back at them. B’Chasdei Hashem, an officer kicked the grenade to the side a moment before it exploded, preventing more serious injuries or even deaths.

While still under fire, the officers were evacuated from the area and rushed to the hospital. One of the officers is in critical condition and the doctors are fighting for his life.

Later on Thursday morning, two terrorists were killed after opening fire at an Israeli riding a motorcycle near Avnei Chefetz in the Shomron. The driver sped away and called the IDF. IDF forces chased after the terrorists and eliminated them, later finding a M-16 rifle in their car.

Earlier on Thursday morning, a terrorist was killed during a gun battle near Kever Yosef in the course of an IDF counterterrorism operation near Shechem.
