Rosh Yeshivah HaGaon HaRav Baruch Dov Povarsky recently answered a number of shailos related to the war in Israel, Kikar H’Shabbat reported.

The Rosh Yeshivah was asked by the head of the Agudas Yisrael in the US about yeshivah bochurim returning to learn in their yeshivos in Eretz Yisrael. The Rosh Yeshivah answered that bochurim who wish to return can definitely do so but whoever is afraid or his parents are afraid can remain in the US.

Another shaila sent to the Rosh Yeshivah by the Rav of a shul in Yerushalayim was regarding a young couple from the US. The wife is very frightened by the situation – to the point that she can’t function – and she wants to fly home and stay with her parents until the situation is calmer.

The Rosh Yeshivah responded that despite the fact that in general, bnei Torah should remain in Eretz Yisrael, nevertheless, in this individual case, the husband obligates himself at the time of Kiddushin to care for his wife and if staying in Israel causes her fear that could harm her, he is obligated to take this into consideration and return with her to the US.

The Rosh Yeshivah also answered a shaila from the Rav of a kehilla in the southern city of Ofakim – responding that the members of the community are obligated to heed all instructions of the Home Front Command regarding necessary protective measures and must stop davening – both during silent tefillah and חזרת הש”ץ – in order to rush to a protected space.
