A rumor has been spreading during recent days that Rav Moshe Maiya Shlita has submitted his resignation from the Shas Council of Torah Sages. It was believed his resignation was linked to the Jerusalem mayoral election, perhaps explaining why the body has not convened regarding the mayoral race.

Rav Maiya called the rumors false, explaining “I never felt suited to sit among “my Rebbi U’Mori”, HaRav Ovadia Shlita and HaRav Shimon Ba’adi Shlita, and I never was part of the decision making process as a result. Nothing has changed and therefore there is no reason for the council to dismiss me or for me to resign.”
