Israel: Deri to Announce if He Plans to Appeal

deri21.jpgAfter last week’s decision by the Jerusalem District Court, Aryeh Deri met with HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita and HaRav Elyashiv Shlita, and he is expected to announce on Sunday if he plans an appeal to the Supreme Court.

Prior to filing his petition with the court, Deri stated he would accept the ruling of the district court but now, it appears that he may be moving to challenge the ruling that states he is not eligible to run in the upcoming Jerusalem mayoral race.

In his ruling, Justice Moshe Sobel stated that even before the moral turpitude law was amended to seven years, Deri would not be eligible to run in the mayoral race. He was released from prison early for good behavior but since his release date should have been September 2003, he would not be able to run in a mayoral race until September 2009.

  1. Deri is a super talented individual who is an asset in a leadership role. There are too many big shots even in the Charedei world that do not want to see his rise again…
