President Donld Trump reportedly warned Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu that further military escalation against Iran could leave Israel without international backing, as Washington works to preserve a fragile ceasefire and revive nuclear negotiations with Tehran.
“I told Bibi, ‘You better be very careful with what you do because you might soon be left alone against Iran,’” Trump was quoted as saying by Israel’s Channel 12.
The warning came after a tense 24-hour period that saw Iran launch ballistic missiles at Israel and Israel subsequently prepare significant retaliatory strikes against targets inside Iran.
According to Channel 12, Trump personally called Netanyahu on Monday night and urged him not to respond to the Iranian missile attacks. While the conversation reportedly ended without a firm agreement, several Trump aides who participated in the call told the network they believed the president had succeeded in buying additional time for ongoing U.S.-Iran negotiations.
However, following the call, Netanyahu reportedly convened senior security consultations and later informed Secretary of State Marco Rubio that Israel had decided to proceed with strikes against Iran.
Trump told Channel 12 that Israel notified Washington only at the last moment, when missiles were already on their way to their targets.
“They updated us very late,” Trump reportedly said, while also claiming he was able to persuade Israel to significantly reduce the scale of the operation.
According to reports cited by Iran International and Channel 12, Israel had initially approved a far more extensive strike package before Trump intervened.
Trump also revealed that five regional countries involved in mediation efforts between Washington and Tehran had urged him to pressure Netanyahu to avoid military escalation and instead focus on securing a diplomatic agreement.
According to the report, Iranian officials later contacted Washington and conveyed that they would cease attacks on Israel if Israel halted its own operations. Trump then reportedly placed another call to Netanyahu and convinced him to pause additional strikes.
The president reiterated that he believes a deal with Iran remains within reach.
“I think they want to sign an agreement,” Trump reportedly said, maintaining that a diplomatic resolution remains possible despite the recent exchange of attacks.
