Barak Losing the Battle Against Faction Leaders

barak3.jpgIt is not for a lack of trying but Labor Party leader Ehud Barak appears to be losing or perhaps already lost the battle as he tries to persuade senior faction officials of the merits to entering the Likud-led government. Last week Barak already announced his party will take up its position in opposition, aware that he lacks the necessary support among the party leadership to sign a coalition agreement with Likud.

Barak told his closest colleagues that it appears at present, Labor’s entry into the coalition is blocked, stating perhaps such a move will be possible in the coming months. It now appears that the new coalition will rest on a majority of 65, not giving the new administration too much of a crutch. Netanyahu has stated that even after ministers are sworn into office, the door remains open to Labor and Kadima.

Barak added that he does not understand the “obsession” with heading to opposition, admitting the poor election results point to opposition but he questioned the zealousness of his colleagues to resign themselves to such a reality.

Speaking to Channel 2 News, the defense minister stated, “The right-wing coalition is narrow, not small,” explaining that others are needed a broad-based coalition is needed to conquer the egos”.

  1. He happens to be quite experienced as defense minister, he is gr8 at starting battles not very good at finishing them off.
